Stitch Up, Look Sharp

Stitch Up, Look Sharp

Stitch Up, Look Sharp is a collaborative project created by Make Mee Studio, social housing provider Lewisham Homes and female empowerment charity BelEve UK.  We secured funding from Travis Perkins to run a series of creative sewing workshops that run in tandem with skills & empowerment programme. Taking place at Deptford Lounge with thanks to The Albany, Deptford.

The project creates a safe space for fifteen 12-16 year old young women to explore themselves creatively whilst also improving employment and education opportunities. The design focus is on sustainability, using only industry waste and up-cycled garments to collaboratively create their final collection.

We also look at how you can use your voice to inspire social change. The workshops will culminate in a showcase of their work which they will curate, helping them to develop event management skills and create ownership over their work.

The programme included trips to London Fashion Week, Poplar WorksLondon College of Fashion and speakers from the fashion and creative industries such as Matthew Needham and Priya Ahluwalia.
