Youth First
is a not-for-profit community benefit society based in Lewisham, running adventure playgrounds and youth clubs. Their open door policy provides Lewisham’s young people with safe places to go, fun things to do and learn, help, support and early intervention from professional and passionate youth workers.
We have a good relationship with Youth First and we have run a number of creative projects for them. We are currently running a series of creative workshops at the Woodpecker Youth Centre as a part of their Carnival Programme. We are teaching the young people how to sew and make their own costumes for a carnival happening in August 2020. The programme also consists of dance, gymnastics and music. We have also taught classes at their centre after school at at holiday times.
In 2018 we led a 3 day workshop at their Bellingham site with young people helping them design and create their own super hero costumes. Many of the participants had never used a sewing machine before, they created their costumes and had a super hero parade at the end. The project was funded by
Phoenix Community Housing.
