Saturday 11th June, 11-5pm.
Sunday 12th June
We are taking over a disused shop in Lewisham Shopping Centre for 6 weeks and turning it into a sustainable fashion hub, The Clothing Repair Station!
With Lewisham being the Borough of Culture this year and one of the key themes being ‘climate action’ we wanted to create a warm and welcoming space on the high street where you can learn how to mend and update your clothes.
Our free drop in mending workshops will be hosted by local professional sewers and makers who will teach you how to mend your clothes using a variety of technique and bring them back to life!
The space is also home to an exhibition of textile artworks made by local people and we will be hosting a range of sustainability and community centred events including a sustainable fashion market day, Queer Craft meet ups, children’s handmade clothing fashion shows and more to be announced...
The Sustainable Maker’s Market will return to Unit 21 Lewisham Shopping Centre, at the Clothing Repair Station, hosted by local sewing social enterprise Make Mee Studio CIC. With a focus on shopping small and shopping slow, the pop-up market will feature twice as many local artists and sustainable brands as last time. Brands include: The Fashion Sister, Sow London, Babe + Babble, Alice Cullen, Cutting Floor Cushions, Poppy Frean Cherrie Stevens & Stitches & Seams.
Make Mee Founder Jaime states that
"Our Sustainable Makers Market is all about showcasing talented local designers who are conscientious about the impact their making has on people and the environment. Our message for buyers isn’t the usual marketing you’d expect; instead we say, shop small, and shop slow. Buy something you’ll treasure, that won’t impact the planet and will make someone’s day.”
