Patched Together wass a creative, collaborative project for Lewisham residents. Over 12 weeks from November 2020 - February 2021 and May - July 2021 Over 130 residents from Deptford to Downham learnt creative textile skills from their homes.  The patches have been sewn together and are being exhibited around Lewisham.

New paragraph

Patched Together

Patched Together is a new creative community project for Lewisham residents. You will receive bundles of creative equipment and materials, learn exciting textile skills and contribute to a collaborative artwork from your home.  Over the course of the project participants will be provided with 6 creative textile kits, one every 2 weeks for 12 weeks.

The project is FREE for participants, we just ask that you return a fabric patch decorated with each technique so we can add it to a patchwork artwork showing off the rich tapestry of Lewisham life.

We have 75 makers signed up all over Lewisham. The first packs are out on their way!

Who Can Join?

The project is open to all Lewisham residents with priority given to those who are shielding, isolated or on low income. Entries can be by individuals or families. You do not need internet access or prior experience, all ages 6+ welcome to join in. We want to have diverse entrants from all corners of Lewisham and all walks of life, so our patchwork shows off the people who makes this borough special.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Each kit will focus on a different textiles technique that will be useful for upcycling or reinventing clothes / homewares. The packs will contain easy to follow, written and pictorial instructions as well any necessary equipment and materials, which you can keep to use in the future.
  • A special patch of fabric will be included with each pack that we want you to decorate and return to us for the community patchwork.
  • We will pick up the previous patch when we drop off the next set of kits.
  • You will also get the chance to send and receive messages to/from your fellow makers around Lewisham.
  • If some makers are interested / have access to the internet we would also like to run some online social sessions.

This project is being run by Make Mee Studio and kindly funded by Community Waves.

We are full at the moment but please do add your name to the waitng list - we will be in touch if we have drop outs and we can let you know if we run another project like this in the future!

Are You A Community Organisation / Group / School who want their service users to join in?

Why Do We Want You As A Hub?

You already have a ready made community and we’d love your help in pinpointing harder to reach individuals who will get a lot out of this project, those who have been stuck inside, who don’t have money to pay for materials, who have recently lost employment or might struggle with mental health issues.

We don't think money or accessibility should be a barrier to the arts, we are passionate about giving as many people as we can the chance to unlock their creative potential and experience the positive impact making can have on mental wellbeing. Learning new craft techniques can help build confidence, self esteem, give the maker time to contemplate  and can also be a great distraction from other stresses.

We want to have a range of hubs across Lewisham from schools to assisted living spaces and community groups making it a rich and intergenerational project, fostering a sense of community at a time when more and more people are feeling disconnected.

What Does Being A Hub Entail?

  •  As a hub you will be a base where we can drop off and collect the materials from (In a Covid 19 secure way) and participants can do the same.
  • We will provide you with a box they can drop them off into. We only ask you to keep note of who has collected their kits and let us know so we can contact those who haven’t.
  • If you have participants you think would like to join but need items delivered/picked up from them please let us know and we can work together to arrange this.
  • We will provide you with advertising materials which we would love for you to share with your residents /service users / students, and encourage them to join in!
  • We will provide you with posters, letters, emails, a sign up sheet/online form if you are interested in becoming a hub.

Email us info@makemeestudio.co.uk if you are interested in becoming a hub.
