What is Fashion Revolution (and why does it matter?)
You might have seen the question: “Who made my clothes?”
That’s Fashion Revolution.

It’s a global movement calling for a fashion industry that is more transparent, more ethical and more sustainable. It began after the Rana Plaza factory collapse in 2013, when over 1,100 garment workers lost their lives, a moment that forced the world to look more closely at how our clothes are made, and at what cost.
Since then, it’s been about asking better questions: Who made this? What is it made from? How was it produced?
Because the truth is, most of us are disconnected from the journey our clothes take before they reach us.
At Make Mee, this is something we care deeply about.
We believe that when you learn how to sew, mend (or even just understand how a garment is constructed) your relationship with your clothes changes. You start to see the skill, the time and the human effort behind every seam. And once you see that… it’s much harder to throw things away.
That’s why we’re so passionate about teaching people how to make, mend and care for their clothes. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being more aware, more connected, and more thoughtful in the way we consume.
Because Fashion Revolution isn’t just about big industry change. It’s about small, everyday actions too: fixing a seam, patching a hole.
Choosing to keep something a little longer.
🪡 Join Us: Mend in Public Day
As part of Fashion Revolution Week, we’re taking that idea out into the world.
On Saturday 11th April, we’ll be hosting our free ‘Worn Out’ mending session at the studio in Crofton Park (10:30am–1:30pm) and we’re also inviting our community to join us for Mend in Public Day.
We’re looking for volunteers who’d be happy to sit outside the library (weather permitting!), mending in public: stitching, chatting and showing passersby that repair is something anyone can do.
It’s simple, but powerful.
Visible mending. Real conversations. A chance to spark curiosity.
✨ You can:
Bring something to mend (or work on scraps)
Sit and stitch with us outdoors
Chat to people about what you’re doing
Help us spread the word about repair (and hand out a few flyers)
No need to be an expert, just come as you are 💛
👉 If you’d like to get involved, get in touch: info@makemeestudio.co.uk
Let’s take mending out onto the street and show just how impactful small stitches can be.
