repair week: wrapped!

Repair Week at Make Mee: Small Stitches, Big Impact

Repair Week is always special to us, but this year felt particularly powerful.

Across the week, we hosted a series of mending and darning sessions, welcoming people in with garments full of stories. There’s something quietly brilliant about sitting around a table together, figuring out how to fix a seam, patch a hole, or simply give something another chance. Time and again, we saw that shift happen from “I don’t know how to fix this” to “oh… I can do this?!”

We also stepped outside the studio, collaborating with XO Bikes on Lewisham High Street to bring mending into a new, public space. Repair doesn’t have to live behind closed doors, it can happen anywhere, and that’s exactly the kind of culture we want to build.

One of the highlights of the week was being featured on BBC Radio London, where our co-founder Jaime spoke with Jumoke Fashola about why we care so much about repair. At its heart, it’s simple: when people learn how to mend their clothes, they start to value them differently.

We were also incredibly proud to be named one of this year’s Repair Week Heroes, recognised for the work we do to make mending accessible in our community. As part of this, a beautiful short film was created featuring Make Mee volunteer Jo, capturing the spirit of what repair means to us: practical, personal, and rooted in care.

Alongside this, we were honoured to receive a Lewisham Repair Champions grant to support our project That’s Sew Not for Me, helping us bring mending skills to even more people across the borough.

Repair Week reminded us that change doesn’t have to be huge to matter.

A stitch here, a patch there, it all adds up!

Thank you to everyone who came along, stitched with us, and made the week what it was.
