Is it a shirt, a jacket, a shacket, a coat, or even a dress? It can be whatever you want it to be! "Choose your own adventure" style sewing is what we are all about at Make Mee Studio.

This design looks fab on all expressions of gender and it's pretty easy to sew. There are a few tricky bits that will further your sewing know-how.

• Who's it for?

  This course is suitable for beginners who are comfortable using sewing machines and have used commercial patterns  or made a few item before. It’s also great for those with some experience who want to learn new skills.

  It's a great follow on from our Learn to Sew: Make A Skirt or Learn To Sew: Casual Basics, or for home sewers who want to further their skills.

  In this course, you’ll learn:

  • How to achieve the perfect fit

  • How to customise a pattern to your own design

  • Sewing plackets, facings, pockets and collar

  • How to finish seams

  • How to sew buttons and buttonholes

• Materials and Equipment

  SHORT JACKET
  If your fabric is 115cm wide:

  You’ll need 2.5 meters of woven fabric for Size XS-4XL.

  You’ll need 3.25 meters of woven fabric for 5XL - 7XL

  If Your Fabric is 130-150cm wide:
  You will need 2 metres of woven fabric for XS-XXL

  You will need 2.5 Metres of woven fabric for 1XL -7XL

  LONGER JACKET

  If your fabric is 115cm wide:

  You’ll need 2.5 metres of woven fabric for Size XS-M.

  You’ll need 3 metres of woven fabric for L-4XL

  If Your Fabric is 130-150cm wide:
  You will need 2.5 metres of woven fabric for XS-XXL

  You will need 3 Metres of woven fabric for 1XL -7XL

  The pattern works in a whole range of fabrics from thick denim, coat fabric or thin cotton for more of a shirt weight. Avoid stretchy fabrics.

  We will send exact fabric details once you have booked so you can go shopping!  We also have a small selection of fabrics and trims in the studio which you can also purchase from us.

  The fabric must be washed before the first lesson to prevent any shrinking after sewing. A normal 30-degree wash is perfect.

  All other tools and equipment will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring along your own sewing machine if you prefer.

• About the Pattern

  We will be using Friday Pattern Company’s Ilford Jacket pattern.

  The patten comes in sizes XS (32”/81cmchest)  to 7XL (60”/152cm chest)

  A copy of the pattern is inclusive with the course price. We will have the pattern printed ready for you to use in the class and you will receive the digital file you can download and use again and again!
