Make A Top
You can now book this class as a Sew Your Own Way Bundle and pick your own dates when you want to come and learn!
In this 'choose your own adventure' style next steps beginners sewing course, we’ll sew a top based on a customisable base garment pattern specially designed to help you master a number of tricky techniques.
We cover collars, sleeves, darts, cuffs, yokes, gathers facings and more! It’s our most extensive ‘skill’ building course that will set you on your way to get your garment making skills flourishing! There are techniques you’ll see crop up in dressmaking time and time again.
This is a great follow on from our Learn to Sew: Casual Basics or Make a Skirt courses, or if you've been finding your own way at home and want to advance your skills.
-
This class is ideal for those who have used commercial patterns before and are looking to expand their sewing skills.
-
You’ll learn how to sew:
- Sleeves (Fitted or gathered)
- Darts
- Gathers & Pleats
- Yoke
- Facing
- Collars / Necklines
- Sleeve Plackets
- Buttonholes
- Rouleau loops -
You will need 2.5m of alight to medium weight woven fabric to make the top, such as cotton or linen. Silky fabrics work but they do up the difficulty level a smidge!
We have a selection of fabrics and trims in the studio which you can purchase from us. Feel free to get in touch before the class to discuss fabric choices.
The fabric must be washed before the first lesson to prevent any shrinking after sewing. A normal 30-degree wash is perfect.
All other tools and equipment will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring along your own sewing machine if you prefer. -
